Published on Friday, 9 May 2025 at 12:35:55 PM

The Shire of Merredin advises that it has received and accepted the formal resignation of Councillor Megan Simmonds, who has made the decision to step down from her role as Councillor, effective immediately.

Councillor Simmonds was elected to the Shire of Merredin Council during the 2021 Local Government Elections and has served the Shire and its community with dedication and integrity over the past four years. During this time, Councillor Simmonds contributed to a range of Council initiatives, including the major $10.5 million CBD Redevelopment, and represented the interests of residents with passion and commitment.

Shire President Donna Crook acknowledged Councillor Simmonds’ service and the positive contribution she has made to the community during her term with Council.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors, Shire staff and the broader community, I would like to sincerely thank Councillor Simmonds for her service. Her contribution over the past four years has been greatly appreciated, and we wish her all the best for the future.”

As the number of Councillors is already scheduled to reduce from eight (8) to seven (7) at the October 2025 Local Government Elections per the requirements of the Local Government Reform, subject to approval, this vacancy will not be filled through an extraordinary election.
